"I feel like a giant weight has been lifted off the shoulders of my family and me. I am grateful for the community of support and sanctuary that we have been able to build during more than three years of struggle. They are all my family now. We still have to fight for my U-visa but I can wait for the approval of my case breathing fresh air." Carmela Apolonio Hernandez
We did it!
After more than three years of living in Sanctuary and resisting racist immigration policies intent on separating their family, Carmela and her family have WON. This family's strength, hope and vision of freedom has mobilized thousands and inspired us all.
ICE officially announced that "Ms. Apolonio Hernandez is not a deportation priority". This means that while Carmela and her family continue the fight to establish legal status, the family is safe to leave sanctuary without fear of deportation.
EXCITING UPDATE!
Thanks to tremendous community support, Carmela has found a house to BUY! Owning a house of their own will provide the family the peace of mind, independence and privacy they deserve. We are so close to our fundraising goal. Can you help Carmela through this homestretch by donating below?
